Darrell D. Sinkey, 79, of Central City, died Sunday, September 3, 2006, in his home following a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Central City, by the Rev. Nick Needham. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores; three daughters, Deborah (Thomas) Zimmerman of Cedar Rapids, Geri Sinkey of Central City and Connie (Lonnie) Felderman of Robins; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Amanda and Christina Zimmerman, Derek (Kerrie) Sinkey and Tony and Nicole Felderman; four great-grandchildren, Mike, Nick, Caitlyn and Keeva; two sisters, Hazel Oliphant of Toddville and Donna (Keith) Albin of Central City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A lifelong resident of Central City, Darrell was born there on April 14, 1927, to Howard R. and Della (Millard) Sinkey. He graduated from Central City Community High School and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. On August 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Dolores J. Milburn at the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Darrell worked at Oliphant Engineering, the Linn County Road Department and was a maintenance supervisor for twenty-five years at Quaker Oaks Company, retiring in 1990. He was a volunteer fireman with the Central City Fire Department for ten years. Darrell was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Central City, American Legion Wapsie Post No. 421, Central City, Central City Historical Society and Quaker Oats Quarter Century Club.
