Darrell C. Sanden, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on May 27, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Friday, June 2, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids and from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Halverson and Pastor Richard Balvanz of King of Kings Lutheran Church of Robins will officiate.Burial: Buffalo Cemetery, Hiawatha, Iowa.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Deanna of Cedar Rapids; children, Dawn Cook (John Schaefer), Sherry (Steve) Will, Douglas ( Laurie) Sanden and Michael (Tracy) Sanden; grandchildren, Adam (Marisa) Will, Melinda (Josh) Huber, Lucas (Amelia) Will, Sarah (Troy) Kowalski, Leah Will (fiancé Kevin Blum) and Ashley Springer (Twan Wagner); great-grandchildren, Anthony and Mia Huber, James and Jonas Will, Alexa Kowalski, Taylor Springer and Truen Wagner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dolores Wittlief; and son-in-law, Douglas Cook.

Darrell was born November 24, 1931, near St. Charles, Minnesota, the second child of Norval & Florence (Connaughty) Sanden. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1949 and then attended Dunwoody Technical School, where he received a degree in electronics. In 1955, Darrell moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for Collins Radio as a test technician, retiring from there after 33 years of service. He was always proud that he got to work on communications for the APOLLO moon modules.
On April 4, 1959, he was united in marriage to Deanna Lyon, in Cedar Rapids. They met on a blind date in 1957 after being introduced by friends, Marjorie and Richard Petersen. Darrell attended King of Kings Lutheran Church. He loved golfing, painting, fishing, playing steel guitar and restoring his 1963 Pontiac.
Darrell and Deanna enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona, for 16 years. He loved his family so much and was so proud of them.
We wish to thank all the nurses at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospice that took such good care of Darrell. We also want to thank Pastor Mark Halverson and Pastor Rich Balvanz for all the visits and prayers for Darrell and family.
Memorials may be made to King of Kings Lutheran Church in Robins or to Unity Point Inpatient Hospice of St. Luke’s in memory of Darrell.
