Darrel l T. Manley, 94, passed away on June 12, 2009, at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by Rev. Karen Downey-Beals. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Darrell was born January 22, 1915, to Chester and Stella (Justis) Manley in Steele City, Nebraska. The family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1926. He attended school in Cedar Rapids. Darrell married Helen (Williams) on June 12, 1938. They made their home in the Cedar Rapids and Springville areas until August 2005, when he and Helen moved to the nursing home in Guthrie Center. Darrell worked in a dairy and then as a mechanic until he retired. He then kept busy with gardening, furniture refinishing, working on tractors, and visiting family and friends in and out of state.
He is survived by daughter; Karen Hawley (Charles) and son, Ronald (Ruth). Grandchildren: Todd, Hawley, Timothy Hawley (Rosana), Jyl Willoughby (Cliff), Debra Lemke (Paul), Jennifer Berguson (Jim), Kristin and Nathan Manley. Great-grandchildren; Emily, Tarah, Lauren, and Kellyn Hawley, Eryn Willoughby, Kelsey and Ethan Berguson, Devon and Alexia Lemke, and great-great grandson, Finn Manley. He is also survived by sister-in-laws, Dorothy Williams and Mary Manley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, parents, brothers Loyal and Harry, brother-law, Don Williams, and Todd’s wife, Fran.
