Darrel R. Lindley, 75, of 301 N. Augusta Ave. in Oxford, formerly of Central City, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Grace Community Church, 2707 Dubuque St. NE, North Liberty, by Pastor Brooks Simpson. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Prairieburg Boulder Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of Oxford; a daughter, Robin (Brian) McConnell of Moline, Illinois; two sons, Jerry (Marjorie) Teague of Belton, Kentucky and Bob (Christa) Lindley of Lone Tree; five grandchildren, Robin Stoker, Ben Stoker, Tyler Lindley, Kira Lindley, and Morgan McConnell.
Also surviving are five brothers and sisters, Cleta Endicott of Central City, Harley Lindley of Central City, Gene Lindley of Marion, Beulah Blanchard of Colorado, and Althea Ballard of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Darnell Stoker; a son-in-law, Dave Stoker; four brothers; and four sisters.
Darrel was born January 31, 1933, the son of Henry and Ruby (Blount) Lindley in Martelle. On December 21, 1951, he married Kathleen Cornwell in Coggon.
Darrel was a man of great faith and fun. He was a boxer, a butcher and a world class BS’er. He was a diehard fan of the Cubs and Hawkeyes. He will be remembered for his love of children, coaching and cows.
