Darrel E. “Bogs” Bogner, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016, at his home. Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Tuesday, November 8, 2016, the family requests for EVERYONE TO VOTE. Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Cedar Rapids; children, Deanna Bogner of San Antonio, Texas, Darren (Cindy) Bogner of Palo, Iowa, Dallas (Dru) Bogner of Neenah, Wisconsin and Doreta Bogner of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren, Jack, August and Abby Bogner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ilene Rueber, Valeda Francik and Eloise Miller.
Darrel was born on January 18, 1932, in Lockridge, Iowa, son of Louis and Clara (Achenbach) Bogner. He graduated from Burlington High School. Darrel served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a meteorologist. After his service, he graduated from North East Missouri and received his Master’s in Industrial Education at Western Illinois University. On May 31, 1959, Darrel and Donna were united in marriage in Burlington, Iowa. Darrel taught at Sperry and Riverside, Iowa before he taught electricity and shop classes at Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids for 36 years. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing tennis. Darrel started the Summer Tennis League in Cedar Rapids, which he helped with for 30 years and also helped with the Iowa Open Tennis Tournament.
