Darlys “Dee” M. Dickman, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away, Monday, January 7, 2019, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Graveside services and burial will be at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Iowa at a later date. Arrangements made by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Dee was born November 10, 1935, in Shell Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin “Benny” and Gertrude “Trudy” (Engel) Dickman Pribbenow. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1953, and attended Upper Iowa University to pursue teaching. She taught in Van Horne, Iowa for one year and then moved to California. In 1982, Dee moved back to Iowa and was employed by Urbana Savings Bank and later the Cedar Rapids School District. Dee never met a stranger. She had a keen sense of humor, quick wit and was always kind to everyone including her “furry friends” – Bonanza, Mia, Teddy and Tiago.
Survivors include her long-time friend, Elaine Cowgur of Cedar Rapids; her sisters, Darlene Suchomel of Urbana, Iowa and Nancy Scott of Cedar Rapids; nephews, John “Joey” (Shelly) Suchomel of Minnesota and Michael Scott of Nevada; niece, Amy (Dan) Clymer of Indiana; grand-nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benny and Trudy Dickman; brothers-in-law, John Suchomel and Gary “Mike” Scott; and niece, Crystal Scott.
Dee’s family would like to thank her hospice nurses and aides for their compassion and kindness and a special thank you to friend, Lori Schumann.
