Darlene Katheryne (Williams) Knussman, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014, after a brief illness. She was a resident of Greenwood Terrace at Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, where she had lived since 2008. Her family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion, where a Funeral Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Darlene, who was a life-long Linn County resident, was born October 13, 1929, to Arnold and Esther Williams of Marion. She graduated from Marion High School in 1947. Darlene was married to John Knussman on December 3, 1950, in Cedar Rapids and enjoyed nearly 57 years of marriage to him until he passed away in September 2007. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Leo Williams, of Hiawatha in March 2011.
Darlene is survived by a brother Dale Williams of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and three children: son Garry (Elizabeth) of Florence, Kentucky, daughter Theresa Prochnow (John) of Fairmont, Minnesota, and daughter Linda Jamieson (Scott) of Nashville, Tennessee. She was blessed with five grandchildren: Tami, Sonja, Brent, Kate, and Meredyth, and five great-grandchildren: Mariah, Trent, Grace Ann, Annika, and Raegan.
Prior to Meth-Wick, Darlene resided at several addresses in Marion where she was a homemaker and active church member. She was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion, where her parents were charter members. In more recent years, Darlene was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
Darlene was a loyal, loving, generous, and tireless supporter of her many friends as well as her family and will always be remembered and cherished by them all.
