Darlene, 98, was born September 6, 1924, to George M. and Stella (Bartosh) Buehler in Cedar Rapids. When younger, Darlene, was quite proud of her beautiful auburn hair which earned her the nickname, “Red”. She was working at Wilson and Company as a meat packer in Cedar Rapids when her red hair caught the eye of her supervisor, Ross “Stanley” King. They were married on April 3, 1945. They had three daughters. After Stan’s death in 1952, Darlene worked at Krebb’s Restaurant on 1st Ave. in Cedar Rapids, as a waitress, to support her three daughters. One night, she was persuaded by her best friend to take a night off and accompany her to Danceland. From across the room, Darlene’s red hair was spotted by a recently discharged sailor, Franklin “Frank” Fieselman, who managed to dance every dance with her and then followed her home to find out where she lived. They were married June 16, 1955, and had one daughter.

Darlene also worked as a grocery checker at the Johnson Ave. Hy-Vee store from the 1960’s through the 1980’s. Years later, many former customers have recognized and approached her, even after her hair had turned white, remembering her red hair, big smile, and warm personality. Darlene enjoyed gardening, collecting rocks, seashells, and attending steam locomotive events with her husband, Frank.

Darlene is survived by her daughters, Judy King-Rieniets of Cedar Rapids, Sally King Lawrence of Maplewood, Minnesota, and Terry King Salyers of Washington, Iowa; grandchildren, Sarina Brewer, Angelo Brewer, and William Salyers; a great-grandson; stepdaughters, May Lou Evans of Cedar Rapids, and Frances Jones of Jacksonville, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her youngest daughter, Sandra Fieselman Starks; grandson, David Rieniets; brother, Dr. Hubert Buehler; sister, LaVon Buehler Marek; and two half-brothers, Richard Buehler, and Earl Wrage.

Darlene, who would have turned 99 in September of this year, was the longest lived and last surviving family member of both the preceding and her generations.
