Daniel Bernard Wilhelm, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where a Scripture service will begin at 1 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military rites will be conducted.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 57 years, Lois; four children, Brad Wilhelm, Jodie Wilhelm, both of Cedar Rapids, Jill (Wade) Miller of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and Kyle (Lindsey) Wilhelm of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Ashley (Mike) Kaelber, Kristin Wilhelm, Adam Wilhelm, Meghan Wilhelm, Spencer Wilhelm, Briana Rickertsen, Noah Rickertsen, Caleb Miller and Libby Miller; two great-grandchildren, Brody and Aubrie Kaelber; brother, Gus (Mary Ann) Wilhelm of Dyersville; sister-in-law, Marilyn Wilhelm of Dyersville; and his many friends and customers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Jo on April 30, 1961; son John Joseph on June 30, 1969; and three brothers, James, Earl and Glen Wilhelm.
Dan was born December 7, 1930, the son of Gustave and Lydia (Fangmann) Wilhelm, in Dyersville, Iowa. He served his country in the United States Navy as a gunnerman aboard the U.S.S. Los Angeles during the Korean Conflict. On June 2, 1956, Dan was united in marriage to Lois Reinhart at the St. Mary’s Church in Solon, Iowa. He was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Dan owned and operated Dan’s Barber Shop.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and was a diehard Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye Fan. Dan was the best husband, father and grandfather who loved his family very much.
