Daniel Reese Mckirgan

Daniel R. McKirgan, 72, of Marion, formerly of Hinckley, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at his home in Marion. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Faith Lutheran Church, Marion, conducted by Pastor John Albertson.
Dan was born July 6, 1945, in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Ralph and Evelyn (Hage) McKirgan. He was a 1964 graduate of Hinckley High School in Big Rock, Illinois. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Air Force. On July 28, 2001, in Marion, Iowa, Dan was united in marriage to Joanne Kae (Umbanhowar) Elshoff. He was Vice-President of IT services at APAC from 1991until 2007. Dan had a great sense of humor and was a funny man. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed being called “Grandpa Goofy”. Dan enjoyed gardening, cooking, working on projects in his garage and his dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne McKirgan of Marion; children, Renae (Tony) Popelar of Cedar Rapids, Heather (Greg) Reeser of North Phoenix, Arizona, Ryan (Michelle) Gilchrist of Litchfield Park, Arizona, Brian Elshoff of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Matt McKirgan of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Amanda Pierce of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Jack Reeser, Shay Larson, Emma Reeser, Sam Larson, Katie Reeser, Zoe Gilchrist, Addison Pierce, Reese Pierce, Libbie Popelar, and Elle Gilchrist; and four siblings, Diane Gordon, Duane (Sherry) McKirgan, Renae Rhoades, and Linda (John) Whildin.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Dale and Dawn.
