Daniel J. "Danny? McDonell, 66, of Coggon, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at his home, surrounded by his family after a lengthy and courageous battle ending with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2002, at St. John?s Catholic Church in Coggon by Father Wayne Droessler. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., followed by a Parish Vigil service. Burial: Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Coggon.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Pat; three daughters, Julie (Paul) of Cedar Rapids, Kelleen (Matt) of Marion and Dana (Matt) of West Des Moines; a brother, Don (Sheryl) McDonell of Coggon; a sister, Mary Hunter and the late Doc. Hunter of Coggon; and eight grandchildren, Blake, Mackenzie, Patrick, Reba, Thomas, Katherine, Trenton and Lilliana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jeannie Patton; and a step-father, Dennis Minnis.
Danny was born July 2, 1936, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Burke) McDonell, at the McDonell family home, in rural Coggon. On June 18, 1960, he married Patricia Ann Wolfe at St. Joseph?s Church in Prairieburg, Iowa. For several years, he worked at the Coggon Sales Barn and for thirty-two years he worked in maintenance at Rockwell Collins. Danny was a member of St. John?s Catholic Church and a volunteer fireman in Coggon.
Danny enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and visiting with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, Papa and brother. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in Danny?s memory.
