Daniel V. Kopecky, 65, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 8, 2004, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Larry Hayward. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2004, at the funeral home. Private Family Committal Services: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Gretchen; two daughters, Diana (Alan) Knoll and Sherrie Kopecky; two brothers, Thomas (Sherrie) of Cedar Rapids and George (Diana) of Drexel, Missouri; two sisters, Mary Ellen (Edward) Horak of Cedar Rapids and Kathleen (Scott) Tidball of California, Maryland; a granddaughter, Colleen (fiancé Jared Gongwer) Knoll; a grandson, Andrew Knoll; 13 nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Dan (Wanda) Holtz of Geneseo, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dan was born June 30, 1938, the son of Jerry and Emma (Tomes) Kopecky, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A graduate from Central City High School in 1956, he served in the United States Air Force and attended Cedar Rapids Business College. On October 7, 1961, he was united in marriage to Gretchen Holtz in Vinton, Iowa. For 37 years, Dan was employed as an accountant with Penford Products, retiring in 1998.
Dan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved playing cards, woodworking, watching the Hawkeyes, gardening and cooking. Dan touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
