Dana Dean Carrothers, 52, of Norman, Oklahoma, formerly of Alburnett, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, in Oklahoma. The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Marion. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the funeral home conducted by Reverend Dan Peterson. Inurnment with military honors will take place at Silver Creek Cemetery, Masonville, Iowa.

Dana is survived by his parents, Don and Freda Carrothers of Alburnett; his children, Brandon, Kayla and Nick Carrothers; sisters, Lesa (Matt) Parmely and Michelle Burke; brother, Jeff (Heather) Carrothers; many nieces and nephews; special cousins; and many friends. He is also survived by his former spouses, Kelly Lane and Autumn Reynoldson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and nephew, Jordan Parmely.

A native of Alburnett, Iowa, Dana was born February 18, 1965, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Donald and Freda (Snodgrass) Carrothers. He grew up on a farm in Alburnett. Dana graduated from Alburnett High School in 1983 and joined the United States Air Force in 1984.

For many years, he was a high school wrestling coach. Most recently Dana was the owner/operator of a pool business. He was a member of the Dallas Cowboys Sunday Let-Down Club. Dana enjoyed and was very competitive while playing strategy games like Risk and Monopoly. He was an avid concert-goer, he loved live music, especially music from the 80’s. Dana also loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and Oklahoma Sooners. He embodied passion and self-confidence. He will be deeply missed.

A memorial fund has been established in Dana’s memory and will be directed towards his children’s education.
