Dale O’Brine, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Monday, February 29, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Dale is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sue of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son, Rod (Cathy) O’Brine of Lisbon, Iowa; grandchildren, Holly (Justin) Fencl of Solon, Iowa, Tracy (Chad) Flory of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Pattrick O’Brine of Stanwood, Iowa; step-grandchildren, Mike (Kristi) Hotchkiss of Bloomington, Illinois, Andy (Sara) Hotchkiss of Thompsons Station, Tennessee; great-grandchildren; Emma Fencl and Declan Flory; step-great-grandchildren, Tyler and Natalie Hotchkiss, Jacqueline and Lilly Hotchkiss; sister, Ruth (Bernard) Briles; brother in-law, Clifford Kephart; and long-time friend, Don Tesar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melvin O’Brine; sisters, Mary Kephart, Dorothy DeLong and Betty O’Brine.
Dale was born on October 26, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Clifford and Hattie O’Brine. He graduated high school in Tucson, Arizona. Dale married Vernona “Sue” Juett on June 2, 1956 in Lisbon, Iowa. They lived in Arizona before returning to Lisbon. Dale worked for Altorfer, Inc. from 1957 until he retired after 44 years, in 2001. Dale enjoyed camping, boating, water skiing, collecting keychains, woodworking, plastic canvas knitting and watching NASCAR. The couple also enjoyed family vacations.
Memorials may be directed to Eastern Iowa Alzheimer’s Association or Lisbon United Methodist Church.
