Dale George Matheny

Dale George Matheny, 98, a retired businessman and a lifelong resident of Center Point, died Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by T. J. Klith. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 16, at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point. Military honors will be provided.
Survivors include daughter, Jeanette Haars of Cedar Rapids; son, Douglas Matheny of Center Point; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special friends, Elnora Ritze and Tom and Nancy Krapfl.
He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Bernita Houts; and brother, Allen.
Dale was born March 15, 1916, the son of Glenn and Olive (Bock) Matheny. On October 8, 1936, he married Hazel Hand in Center Point. She passed away February 8, 2001. Dale, a World War II Veteran, served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Center Point Road Church of Christ, Marion, Benton City Lodge #81 AF & AM, Shellsburg and the American Legion, Center Point.
