Dale W. Filloon, 86, of Marion, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospice, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Visitation will be held Friday, July 13, 2018, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at Green Center Cemetery in Morley, Iowa.
Dale was born January 4, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa. Dale spent his early years in Morley with the family later moving to Marion, Iowa. He graduated from Marion High School in 1951. Dale joined the United States Air Force after graduation and was stationed at K-2 Korea where he worked as an aircraft technician with the 6147th Mosquito Squadron. After an honorable discharge in 1955, he returned to Marion where he worked as a builder of the big blue AO Smith silos which are seen throughout Iowa. He married Evelyn Nelson on November 25, 1961, in Anamosa, Iowa. Dale then went to work for Collins Radio as a machinist for 26 years, retiring in 1990. One of his greatest enjoyments was being an original member of the old west reenactment group called “Desperado’s”. He was a very accomplished leather craftsman and lover of antique convertible automobiles, winning many awards. Anyone who knew Dale knows that he enjoyed simply talking with friends, telling stories about his family, going to gun shows, and watching westerns on television.
Dale is survived by his wife, Evelyn; son, Gregory (Linda) Nelson; grandchildren, Nicole Shook and Michael Nelson; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brooklyn Shook; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harriett and step-father Amos Kohl.
