Dale Robert Cooper, 83, a longtime Manchester resident, passed away on Wednesday, March 28. 2012 while a resident at the Good Neighbor Home.
Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012 by Rev. Mary Greene at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Manchester.
Dale was born May 8, 1928 in Manly, Iowa, eldest of four sons to Earl and Gladys Cooper. After graduation from Iowa State College in 1951, Dale opened the Manchester Milk Sanitation Unit at the corner of Prospect and Williams Street, grading diary farms and milk creameries across northeast Iowa. Later, the business transitioned to the Willard Building on East Main Street in Manchester, which Dale purchased, renting offices to numerous other businesses, including his son Tim’s first dental practice.
During his years in Manchester, Dale was active in the Boy Scouts, the Lion’s Club, Rotary International, the National Federation of Independent Business, Manchester Enterprise, Inc and the Manchester Golf and Country Club. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and bridge player, and took several international trips, where his camera captured many historical sights and local flavors.
Dale is survived by three children, Dianne (Keith) Collins of Tampa FL, Dr Timothy (Marcia) Cooper of Scottsdale, AZ and Todd (Chris) Cooper of Dallas TX; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three brothers; Eugene, Neil, and Paul.
