Cyrus S. Imsland, 77, of Hiawatha, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, in Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Memorial Services: 10:30 a.m. April 11, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dan Clark Bridges of Hope Lutheran Church. Private Inurnment: St. Patrick?s Cemetery, Fairfax.
Survivors include his wife, Rose of 51 years; three daughters, Mary (Matt) Richeson, Sara (Robert) Henton and Christine Imsland, all of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Elie Richeson of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Mary Lou Imsland of Thousands Oaks, California, and Joan Baird of Dupont, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Wilma.
Cyrus was born on March 5, 1926, in McCallsburg, Iowa, the son of Chris and Helen Twedt Imsland, who were one of the pioneering farm families of Story County. On June 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Rose Phelps in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Cyrus farmed in Story County and the Bennett area and then worked for Quaker Oats, retiring after 45 years. He was a member of the United Cereal Workers Local 110 and the Midwest Old Threshers Association. Cyrus was very proud of his Norwegian Heritage. He loved the farming life and his family.
