Cyril "Cy? Knepper, 79, of Marion, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father Greg. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Maureen; a son, Gary of Portland, Oregon; a daughter, Gayle of Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters, Josephine (Harry) Neville of Anamosa, Marian (Don) Kearney of Dubuque and Odelia Doden of Monticello; and a brother, Norbert (Mary Lou) Knepper of Toddville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arnold, Francis, and Ambrose; and two sisters, Hilda and Monica.
Cy was born September 4, 1927, the son of Joseph and Mae (Leytem) Knepper in Cascade. On June 1, 1949, he married Maureen Moreland at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Ryan. Cy farmed and later worked at the Carriage House, Cedar Rapids Paint, and retired from Mercy Hospital after fifteen years as a maintenance mechanic. He was a member of the Over 60 Club, Mercy Retirees, Cedar Rapids Parkinson?s Support Group, The Silver Society, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion for 42 years.
Cy was an avid gardener who loved working outside and had a beautiful yard. He had talents in many diverse areas. He was a great friend, loving husband, and father. Cy was always concerned about others and was patient and supportive to everyone he met.
He was so loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
The pallbearers will be, Walter McNamara, Bernard Ryan, Marvin Meiers, Roger Konzen, Sandy Alt, and Joe Skvor. The honorary bearers are, Dr. Erich Streib, Gerald Tharp, Ralph Gaede, Elmer Konzen, and Ray Terrell.
A memorial fund has been established in Cy?s memory.
