Cynthia M. (Koons) Scott, 56, of 312 Forest Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Mechanicsville, died Saturday, February 18, 2006, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a sudden illness. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Del Bear. Burial, immediately following the service, will be at St. Patrick?s Cemetery, St. Patrick's Road, southwest of Fairfax, off highway 151. After the burial, a luncheon will be held at Marion Free Methodist Church, 2690 25th Ave. in Marion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 21.)

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Mahurin and husband Kirk of Olathe, Kansas, and their children, Elise, Zachary, Alexandria and Gage; two sisters, Sharon Otte of Marion and Sally Filkins and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon; a nephew Scott Otte of Hartford, Wisconsin; two nieces, Carmen Martin and husband Gregof Hartford, Wisconsin, and Jessica Boots of Mechanicsville; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cindy was born January 27, 1950, the daughter of Lee and Marjorie Bowler Scott in Iowa City. She married Ralph Koons and they later divorced. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Stanwood, Kirkwood Community College and received her RN degree from Mt. Mercy College. She was a practicing registered nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for over fifteen years.

Cindy was a member of the Iowa Nurses Association, Cedar Valley Humane Society, PETA and a former member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.

A memorial fund has been established for the Cedar Valley Humane Society in memory of Cindy.
