Curtis Grant Schantz, 74, of Alburnett, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018. His family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the Alburnett Christian Church. Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018, at the church by Rev. Dan Peterson. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Curtis was born March 13, 1944, son of Lewis and Saloma (Sauer) Schantz in Walker. He graduated from Alburnett High School in 1962. On January 7, 1967, he and Jane Walkner were married at the Alburnett Christian Church. He was a signalman in the Iowa National Guard for six years. Curtis and his Dad farmed together. With the passing of Dad, Curtis continued to farm and started his own business, Schantz Farm and Supply. His son, Matthew, joined him in 2011.
Curtis, first and foremost, was a loving and proud husband, dad, and grandpa. He is survived by his wife, Jane; son, Matthew and Sherry Schantz; daughters, Heidi and Tracey Ryan and Holly and Greg Ervin; five grandchildren, Zach, Ben, Emmie, Eli and Saul; mother, Saloma Schantz McCright; brother, Chester and Lois Schantz; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and countless friends.
Curtis was a lifelong member of Alburnett Christian Church, member of Alburnett Community Historical Society, served on the Alburnett Otter Creek Fire Department for 33 years, served on various farm related boards, was an Otter Creek Township trustee, and a licensed Master Electrician.
His greatest loves and pride were his grandchildren and faithful dog, Maggie. Curtis will be remembered as an amazing husband, beyond believable father and grandfather, a devout Christian, a teacher to many, a storyteller extraordinaire and the man who gave all he had to all he met.
A memorial fund has been established in Curtis’ memory.
