Courtland “Chip” Chapman, 70, of Manchester, died Sunday, August 17, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City following a sudden illness.
A Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Manchester with Rev. John Flaherty. Family will greet friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester, where a Scripture service will be held at 4:00 p.m.. Friends may also call one hour before service at the church, Wednesday, August 20th. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Chip was born November 22, 1937 in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Paul R. and Martha (Robertson) Chapman. He graduated in 1956 from the Monticello Sacred Heart School. On August 18, 1959, Chip was united in marriage to Marjorie Rose Steiner in Monticello. He worked in the grocery business in Monticello and Tipton before moving to Manchester in 1971. Chip worked for the Manchester Super Value Grocery Store for 21 years before retiring in 1992. Following retirement, he did maintenance work and delivered meals for the Golden Age Activity Center and was a cashier for Pronto.
Chip enjoyed golf, cards, going to the Casino and loved to cook. He was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan.
Chip is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marjorie Chapman; four sons, Mark, Gary, Dean and Carl Chapman all of Manchester; five grandchildren, Elisha, Aaron, Kaci, Zach and Cassidy all of Manchester; and one great-grandson, Parker of Edgewood; four sisters, Clara Clark, Virginia Ortgies, Eleanor Bronneman, and Pat Brighton all of Monticello; and three brothers, Mike Chapman of Manchester, Tom Chapman of San Diego, CA, and Steve Chapman of Monticello.
Chip was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Martha Chapman.
