Connie L. Morarend, 48, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died unexpectedly Friday, February 22, 2013, at her home. Memorial Service: 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Father David Beckman. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial at a later date: Strawberry Point, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Mark; step-children, Melissa (Gregg) Hancock of Blue Grass, Iowa and Travis (Lisa Fascher) Morarend of Ankeny; step grandchildren, Mason Hancock and Ethan Hancock; and siblings, Vicki Rettinger of Strawberry Point, Mary (Roy) Ickes of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Audrey (Charlie) Besler of Dundee, Bernie (Diane) Farrell of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Kathleen (Stephen Pendleton) Farrell of Portland, Oregon, and Michael Hakert of Clearwater, Florida. Also surviving are her mother and father-in-law, Carol and Jim Pflughaupt of Central City, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Doug) Klima and Cathy (John) Fisher, both of Center Point and Karen Hale of Phoenix, Arizona; her dog, Sadie and her cat, Bozo.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, Robert Morarend; her brothers, Danny Farrell, Jimmy Farrell and Bruce Hakert; and one sister, Ann Marie Farrell.
Born March 21, 1964, in Anamosa, Iowa, Connie was the daughter of Ed and Eleanor (Nolan) Farrell. On March 1, 1998, she was united in marriage to Mark Morarend. She enjoyed her work in the restaurant industry. She worked at various locations in the Cedar Rapids area.
Connie’s joys were music, her abundance of friends, her furry friends and flower gardening. She looked forward to her annual trips with Mark to the Carribean.
