Colby Stepanek, 32, of Fairfax, Iowa, died Thursday, June 2, 2022. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the funeral home.
Colby was born July 14, 1989, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Douglas Stepanek and Brenda (Hansen) Kell. He graduated from Prairie High School in 2007. Colby was a roofer and a member of Roofing Union 182. He was a charter member of Sons of the American Legion Squadron 572. Colby enjoyed riding dirt bikes when he was younger. He enjoyed helping on the farm and playing softball. Colby (unlike the rest of his family) was a Nebraska Huskers fan. He also liked to watch the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cubs, and the Minnesota Vikings. Colby loved his family and was a good friend to everyone he met. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his parents, Douglas Stepanek and Brenda and Joe Kell all of Fairfax; siblings, Melissa Stepanek, Jarrad Stepanek, Erin Kell, Adam Kell and Sean Kell, all of Cedar Rapids; nieces, Leah Schmidt, Jayla Keller and Karmyn Fleming; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.
Colby was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dorothee and Eldon Stepanek and Margie Hansen and Eldon Hansen.
