Clyde E. Pogue, 95, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, formerly a longtime resident of Marion, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at St. Luke?s Hospital, from complications of multiple strokes. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Linda Hansen Bibb. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery in Masonville, Iowa.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet (Ralph) Wilfong of Cedar Rapids; his son, Edwin (Kathy) Pogue of Marion; four grandchildren, Scott (Denise) Wilfong of Phoenix, Arizona, Brent (Lori) Wilfong of Springville, Terra (Mason) Akers of Marion, and Kyle Pogue of Marion; two great-granddaughters, Nicole Wilfong of Phoenix, Arizona and Jordyn Akers of Marion; four step-great-grandchildren, Aaron Kelley of Longmont, Colorado, Kelsey Roorda of Phoenix, Arizona, Dustin (Carly) Roskop of Marion, and Leah Roskop of Springville; and two step-great-great-grandchildren, Colby and Keaton Roskop of Marion.

Also surviving are two brothers, Glen Pogue of Manchester and Donald (Anabel) Pogue of Iowa City; several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred (Denison) Pogue; his wife, Alta; a son, Earl Dean Pogue; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bill Holmblad; and sister-in-law, Vivian Pogue.

Clyde was born December 14, 1911, the son of James and Mildred (Denison) Pogue in Masonville. He graduated from Lamont High School in 1930. On November 30, 1933, he married Alta M. Stimson in Masonville. She died April 5, 1998. Clyde was a welder most of his working life, starting in California working on ships during WWII. He then worked at Link-Belt Speeder (FMC) for almost twenty-seven years before retiring in 1974. Clyde had also worked at LaPlante Choates, Allis Chalmers and, after his retirement, about ten years part-time at the Marion YMCA.

Clyde was a member of FMC retirees. He and Alta enjoyed traveling, visiting family, and eating out. In later years, he enjoyed breakfast at HyVee, playing Skip-Bo, and watching TV, especially Animal Planet which prompted his philosophy, "I think animals are smarter than people!? Clyde also enjoyed inventing gadgets and tinkering with anything mechanical.
