Clifford Eldon Kirk, 85, of Alburnett, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa, by Allan Sloan and Rev. Burr Bryant. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 64 years, Mildred; his children, Karen (George) Caraway of Worthington, Minnesota, Ken (Joan) Kirk of Osage, Iowa, David (Pam) Kirk, Pat (Gale) Jordan, all of Alburnett and Tom (Denise) Kirk of Iowa City, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Sheri Denham, Julie Jensen, Georgiann Battleson, Tim Kirk, Sarah Kirk, Kim Edwards, Kari Williams, Kelly Kirk, Tricia Redig, Trent Jordan, Kevin Kirk and Klint Kirk; 17 great-grandchildren, Justin Denham, Brendon Caraway, Caleb Caraway, Carissa Caraway, Brooklynn Jensen, Conner Battleson, Erika Edwards, Mason Edwards, Austin Edwards, Nicholas Edwards, Madyson Williams, Kirk Williams, Sadie Williams, Kolton Kirk, Kallie Kirk, Logan Redig and Caleb Kirk; and a sister, Valeta Whitehead of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harold and Elzo.
Clifford was born June 1, 1921, the son of Eldon and Leona (McNiel) Kirk, in Alburnett, Iowa. On December 6, 1942, he was united in marriage to Mildred Sloan in Alburnett. A graduate from the 1939 Alburnett class, Clifford farmed in the Alburnett area for 71 years and owned and operated Kirk Fertilizer. He was a member of the Alburnett United Methodist Church, Level Masonic Lodge No. 284 AF & AM in Central City, and Alburnett Lion?s Club. Clifford also served on the Alburnett Community School board for 18 years, the Farmers Mutual Telephone Board for 15 years and was a longtime member of the Linn County Farm Bureau.
Clifford was a very proud farmer who loved his family and community very much. The kids from the entire community knew and loved him. Clifford was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
Memorials may be made to the Alburnett United Methodist Church in Clifford?s memory.
