Cletus J. Sharp, 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, April 2, 2017, at St. Luke’s Unity Point Hospice Unit, Cedar Rapids, after a short but courageous battle with an aggressive cancer. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Cletus was born on January 1, 1942, in Richmond, Iowa, the son of Lloyd & Charlotte (Lintz) Sharp. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School. Cletus retired from the Cedar Rapids Gazette in 2003 with 26 years of service. On November 25, 1980, Cletus married Linda Kay Flugum, of Leland, Iowa, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Cletus and Linda were loving foster parents to over 20 children. His greatest joy in life was his wife, family, friends, fishing and his pets.
Cletus was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Bass Masters Club, Wapsie Valley and Bear Creek Bass Clubs.
Cletus is survived by his daughter, Tina Sharp ; step-daughter, Amber Haufle; grandchildren, Avery, Lydia, Melinda, Isabella and Fiona Haufle, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Rosella Stratton of Maquoketa; and mother-in-law, Majella Flugum of Lake Mills.
Cletus was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Kay Sharp; parents, Lloyd & Charlotte Sharp; brothers, Lloyd, Richard, Clement, William and Eugene Sharp; and sisters, Margaret Soukup, Kathleen Cram and Susan Kluth.
