Cleta May (Crandall) Coleman, 83, long-time resident of Anamosa and Fairview, died Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the Anamosa Care Center following a long illness. Memorial Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Randy Bobzien of First Baptist Church in Marion. Inurnment: Wilcox Cemetery in Viola, Iowa.

Survivors include her son, Darwin (Elizabeth) Coleman of Anamosa; a granddaughter, Rebecca (Coleman) Poling and husband, Jon, of Cedar Rapids; and her sister, Chloe Goad of Knoxville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lloyd, and a brother-in-law, Don Goad.

Cleta was born on November 12, 1921 in Virginia Township of Warren County, Iowa to Newton Dale and Alta Fay (McCuddin) Crandall. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1939. Cleta was married to Lloyd Everett Coleman on June 7, 1942 in Knoxville, Iowa. She and Lloyd farmed in the Fairview area for over 45 years, also working as a waitress, at the Anamosa Shirt Factory, as a store clerk at the Fairview Store, and at Anamosa Hardware. Cleta completed her working years as head cook at the Strawberry Hill Elementary School in Anamosa for 14 years, retiring in 1986.

Cleta was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion, where she helped with vacation bible school, Sunday school, and the nursery for many years. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend and was known for her exceptional skills at cooking and for always helping others. Lloyd and Cleta shared a special bond. Every night they enjoyed games of dominoes at their kitchen table. Many were spent with their granddaughter, who loved to play the game with Grandma and Grandpa. The two worked together, played together, and loved each other dearly.

A memorial fund has been established in Cleta?s memory.
