Clayton G. Burns, 96, of 1514 7th Ave. Belle Plaine, died Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Willow Gardens, Marion. Memorial gathering will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids. Private inurnment at Linwood Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, of 72 years, Marian; children, Judy Deal of Marion and Howard Burns of Hiawatha; four grandchildren, Gail (Dave) Crane of Cedar Rapids, Brian Deal of Hiawatha, Sonja (Robert) Sammons of Cedar Rapids and Brenda (Timothy) Davis of Hiawatha; eleven great-grandchildren; and fourteen great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and two sisters.
Clayton was born of February 28, 1916, in Dougherty, Iowa, son of Jay and Myrtle (Hamn) Burns. On August 3, 1940 he married Marian Orms. Clayton worked at Iowa Steel where he retired after 33 years in 1971. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Clayton Loved fishing, playing cards and wood working.
A memorial fund has been established in Clayton’s memory.
