Clauda J. Mason, 82, of 147 Bowling Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her children, Marvin Ellard of Jacksonville, Florida, Barbara Gamble of Seattle, Washington, Michael (Sun) Mason of Portage, Indiana, Kevin (Erlinda) Mason of Manhein, Germany, Jonathan (Joanne) Mason of Walford, Iowa, Brandy (Jason) Murphey of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Boyce (Lucette) Henley of Michigan, Betty (Spencer) Russell of Williamsburg, Iowa, Bobby Henley of Marengo, Iowa, Nancy (Jerry) Keegan of Springfield, Missouri, Wanda (Sam) Raybould of Indiana, Roger (Judy) Henley of Fairfax, Iowa, Jimmy (Jean) Henley of Illinois, Kathy (Eddie) Hannah of Missouri, Sue (Rex) Rider of Marengo, Brenda (Jake) Knock of Tiffin, Sally (Scott) Grant of Webster and Ella Jean Keiser (Junior Martinson) of Marengo; and aunt, Lola Ellard of St. Louis, Missouri. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sons-in-law, Patrick McBride of Arizona and Jeff (Mary) Jones of Cedar Rapids; and special longtime friends, Sharon Ramsdell and Terri Williams.
Clauda was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; parents; daughters, Belinda Mason and Karen McBride; and daughter-in-law, Ziggy Ellard.
Born July 21, 1929, in Arvern, Arkansas, Clauda was the daughter of Claude and Minnie (Williamson) Henley. She attended Slapshot High School in Jonesboro, Arkansas, where she excelled in basketball. She worked in a shoe factory in St. Louis. On April 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to Henry I. Mason in Missouri. In 1960, they settled on Elwood’s farm in North English, Iowa, where her family all share-cropped for Lambert Elwood. She later went to work for Square D, retiring in 1990 after 32 years.
Clauda received a letter of commendation from the U.S. military for having six of her children in military service. She ran C & H World of Plates and volunteered at Access 2 Independence. Clauda enjoyed league golf, bowling, daily breakfast at I-Hop, traveling and wintering in Biloxi, Mississippi.
