Clarence W. Reding, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, joined the Lord Monday, January 21, 2008, in Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, Iowa, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 24, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military honors by American Legion Hanford Post #5.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; daughters, Beverly (Terry) Elbert of Indianola, Connie (Don) Culver of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, Sherrie (Robert) Justin of Ely, Deb Spain, Darlene (David) Frith, and Renee Reding all of Cedar Rapids; sons, Steven Reding of Preston, Iowa and Mark (Cheryl) Reding of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Esther Gerhold of Hiawatha; and many nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Florence Kelsey and Margaret Kahler; brother, John; and several nieces and nephews.
Clarence was born September 16, 1922, the son of John G. Reding and Isabell J. Hellard. He served our country with the army during WWII and the Korean Conflict, earning nine ribbons, a silver and a bronze star. He married Joan Butschi on December 11, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church. He spent his working career setting tile for J.T. Ure, Cedar Rapids Ceramic Tile and retired from Appleby & Horn. He was a member of BAC Union and Trinity Lutheran Church.
Clarence enjoyed fishing, hunting and music, having played drums in the Emerald Knights Drum Corps. He also played the violin.
