Clarence Lee “John” Nost, 65, a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, passed on to eternal life on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving companion, Carmen Card; his children, grandchildren; his brother and 2 sisters; nieces and nephews and his best friend. Services: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Buffalo United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha, Iowa.
John was born December 8, 1945. He was the oldest son of Harold and Gladys (Hutton) Nost. He graduated from Washington Sr. High School in 1963. John served in the Armed Forces. He worked for 37 years in the Quarries Industries, employed at Aggregates and Wendling Quarries, Inc. He loved his job. John was a loving and devoted son; a loving father; a mentor; and “a coach” to many of his nieces and nephews. He was very active in all outdoor sports. Golf was his “forte.” John was an avid fisherman and a huge Miami Dolphins fan. John enjoyed his music, especially the Beatles, Brooks & Dunn, and Alabama. He was a “bow tie man”, his first car, a 1955 Chevy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee & Gladys Nost and his sister, Patricia Fish.
John is survived by his loving companion, Carmen Card; his children, Tom and Jacey, and grandson Scotty Nost; his daughter, Jennifer and Todd Otto and grandson, Dakota; his sisters, Lee Ann Nost, Center Point, Donna Svoboda, Lincoln, Nebraska; brother, William Nost, Toddville; brother-in-law Bob Fish, Cedar Rapids; 13 nieces and nephews; 21 great nieces and nephews; his aunt Becky and Uncle Jack Hutton and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John’s memory.
