Clarence F. Hoover, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2011. Services: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Chaplain Jeremy Hudson. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Hanford Post #5.
Surviving include his children, Danny (Jonie) Wolverton, Deltona, Florida, Roger (Jo Ann) Sutton, Erie, Illinois and Joyce Cain, Kentucky; ten grandchildren, Pam (Frank) Lockhart, Candy (Eric) Heffenger, Angie (Danny) Hewitt, Debra (Billy) Smith, Robin Carter, Keith (Wendy) Marro, Justin Wolverton, Roger Jr. (Wendy) Sutton, Tammi (John) Marschang and Shane (Heather) Sutton; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorraine; his parents; four sisters, Helen, Elsie, Martha and Ethel; and three brothers, John H., Harry C. and George.
Clarence was born May 14, 1927, in Wadena, Minnesota, the son of Harry and Laura Hoover. On January 8, 1955, he married Lorraine H. Manweller in Anamosa, Iowa. Clarence was a WW II veteran; worked for Western Union, various construction jobs, drove heavy equipment for Central Construction and drove semi for CRST, retiring in 1986.
Clarence’s joys were traveling, camping, spending time at his cabin, woodworking, doing things with his hands, and wintering in Brownsville, Texas, In his younger years, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a member of Cedar Christian Church in Cedar Rapids, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #304, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2272 and the American Legion Hanford Post #5.
A memorial fund has been established in Clarence’s honor.
