Clarence “Hap” Salow, 91, of Earlville, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. Visitation for Clarence will be held, on Friday, February 18, 2022, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home in Earlville. Additional Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the Earlville United Parish Church followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m., Joe Camp is officiating. Burial with Military Honors will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Earlville. Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville is in charge of arrangements.
Clarence was born on January 14, 1931, on the farm in Earlville, the son of Raymond and Nellie (Hunt) Salow. He attended Earlville High School. Clarence served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Clarence married Iris Grigg in 1953, seven children were born into this union, they later divorced, he married Phyllis Sly in 1983. He worked for John Deere for 30 years until his retirement. Clarence was a member of the Earlville Immanuel Lutheran Church, Earlville VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed working out in the garage on cars, spending time with friends and family, especially the grandchildren.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Phyllis Salow; children, Cindy Vargus of Blade Lake, Washington, Kevin J. Salow of Dumont, Iowa, Kelly Salow of Delhi, Iowa, Dean (Annette) Salow, Tony (Jane) Salow and Kim (Kevin) Smith all of Earlville, Becky (Mike) Friedmann of Dyersville, Iowa, Cindy Fox of Ellenton, Florida, Tab (Jan) Sly of Oelwein, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Lori Sly of Alexandria, Iowa; 25 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; brother, Dick (Pat) Salow of Manchester; sisters-in-law, Irene Salow, and Betty Salow, both of Manchester, and Kay Kruger of Altamonte Springs, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Nellie Salow; children, Tracy Salow, Bruce Sly; daughter-in-law, Mae Salow; son-in-law, Randy Fox; sister, Marion (Robert) Young; brothers, Bill (Audrey) Salow, Walt (Amber) Salow, Don Salow, Loren (Irene) Salow, Ray Salow Jr., Harold (Mona) Salow, Dave (Rosie) Salow, Gary Salow; in-laws, Eileen (Leo) Schrunk, Bernie (Juanita) Sabin, John (Barb) and second wife (Hattie) Sabin, Gene (Norma) Sabin, Paul (Lila) Sabin, and Lylas Pensel.
