Clarence Hanson (Jr.), 78, of Bertram, Iowa, died Thursday, July 31, 2008, in Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m., Monday, August 4, 2008, at First Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 3, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; his children, LaWonna Hanson of Tipton, Lyla (Chuck) LeGrand, Lyle (Lori) Hanson both of Cedar Rapids and Larry (Jennifer) Hanson of Fairfax; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and ten step great grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brothers, Harold and Raymond; and his sisters, Nancy, Karen, Shirley, Hazel, Norma, Ruth and Marilyn.
Clarence was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Clarence and Ann Hanson; mother and stepfather, Hazel and Bill Ross; two sisters, Myrtle and Loraine; and three brothers, Lyle, DuWayne and Billy.
Clarence was born March 29, 1930, in West Union, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Hazel Hanson. On June 8, 1952, he married Anna Mae Dlouhy at the Lutheran Church in Independence. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Clarence worked as a butcher, a dump truck driver, a horse trainer in West Union and most recently owned National Janitor Service.
He was a member of the Newhall American Legion and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and working on cars. Clarence also loved family gatherings.
