Clarence M. Frett, 100, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will greet friends and family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Clarence was born on January 24, 1922, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of August and Veronica (Reuter) Frett. He graduated from Lyons High School in Clinton. Clarence served honorably in the United States Coast Guard as the ship’s barber on the USS Beaufort (PF-59) from 1943 to 1946, during World War II. On November 30, 1946, he was united in marriage to Frances Louise Netzer. To this union, seven children were born. Clarence started Frett Barber Service in 1949, in Marion, retiring after 67 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion and the Marion American Legion Post #298 for 74 years. Clarence enjoyed playing BINGO, Blackjack, Bowling, and bus trips. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. Clarence credits his long life to his daily bowl of Wheaties, and in December of 2021, General Mills put his picture on a special box of Wheaties. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Clarence is survived and lovingly remembered by his seven children, Dennis (Peggy) Frett, Ronald Frett, Donna Jones, Duane (Kimberly) Frett, Patrick Frett, Kevin (Valarie) Frett, and Renee Campbell; 11 grandchildren, Brent Sands, Jamie Sands, Katrina Haugen, Katherine Campbell, Emily Campbell, Kyle Olson, Jason Hoffman, Lacy Jones, Bryan Jones, Russell Frett, and Daniel Frett; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur and Leo Frett; sister, Teresa Dullum; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Frances Frett, his wife of 75 years; siblings, Vincent, Edward, Robert, Alice, Joan, Raymond, Francis, Lucille, Marie, and August Jr.; daughter-in-law, Deidre Frett; and two sons-in-law, Douglas Campbell and William Jones.
