Cindy L. (Riser) Starks, 70, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Northbrook Manor Care in Cedar Rapids, after a long illness. Visitation: Friday, November 11th, 4 - 7 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, November 12 at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Cindy is survived by her daughter, Katie Starks (Lance Cufr); daughter-in-law, Melissa Starks; sister, Carolyn (John) O’Connor; grandsons, Daylan, Steele and Zachoriah; nieces and nephews, Mark Kelly, Lynell (Terry Hakeman), Gina and Nathan O’Connor; extended family and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ella Riser; partner of 20 years, Glenn Lonsdale; and her beloved son, Shannon Starks.
Cindy was born on March 5, 1952, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of George and Ella (Buker) Riser. She was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School, class of 1970 and spent decades dedicated to organizing and planning class reunions.
Cindy was a kind, giving and creative soul who brought joy and laughter to all around her. She was an interior decorator, a pharmacy technician, cosmetician and spent many years working in fabric and crafting stores. Her creativity and love of music, Cedar Rapids history, sewing and art of all kinds had no end. She loved to make gifts and costumes for friends and family; from novelty items at parties, to aprons for chili cook-off winners, to blankets for her grandkids, her talent was remarkable. She was also a huge supporter of her loved ones in their own creative endeavors. She was Glenn’s constant companion wherever he played music and was often cheering on her daughter in theatre, and her son and grandsons at their games and performances. Her encouragement and love will be greatly missed by all.
