Cindy (Campbell) Thumma, 52, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Grace Baptist Church, Marion, by Pastor Cecil Ballard. The family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
Cindy was born in Cedar Rapids to Robert and Norma (Gregory) Campbell. She graduated from Jefferson High School and married Kevin Thumma in 1975. For the next 20 years, they traveled all over of the U.S. and England with their children. Cindy also served 6 years in the Air Force. She taught school in Florida and Texas before her husband retired. They became foster parents in 1996 and served for 10 years to over 40 children. They are members of Grace Baptist Church in Marion, Iowa and were active in Adult Sunday School, Junior Church, Nursing Home Ministry and Hospital Visitation.
Cindy is survived by her husband of 33 years, Kevin; their daughter, Alysia of San Luis Potosi, Mexico; a son, Kevin (Courtney) of Knoxville, Tennessee and a grandson, Grant; her father, Robert Campbell of Unionville, Missouri; her mother, Norma Lowe of Cedar Rapids; her brother, Greg, of Missouri; a sister, Tina, of Des Moines and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear family and friends of Mexico.
Cindy was preceded in death by a daughter, Cara, her step dad, Galen Lowe, and friends, Paula & Janet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missions Fund at Grace Baptist Church, 1461 East Post Road, Marion, 52302, in Cindy’s memory.
