Chrystal M. Longerbeam (Koenig)
December 19, 1922 — July 30, 2008
Chrystal M. Longerbeam, 85, of 2975 F Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following complications of a stroke. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Dick Ernst. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her sisters, Charlotte Henning of Decorah and Marian Shafer of Waukon; a sister-in-law, Pat Koenig of Janesville; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and staff at Ridgeview, including a special friend, Wilma Musick of Ridgeview.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Judd; two brothers, Orville and Merlin Koenig; a sister-in-law, Irene Koenig; and two brothers-in-law, Rueben Henning and Ray Shafer.
Chrystal was born December 19, 1922, the daughter of William and Emma (Schroeder) Koenig, in Castalia, Iowa. After her high school graduation, she earned her teaching certificate from Upper Iowa. On June 8, 1947, Chrystal was united in marriage to Judd Longerbeam in Troy, Kansas. For over 33 years, she worked in the office at Wilson & Company, retiring in 1978. Chrystal was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church.
