Chester A. Dunlap, 92, formerly of 3032 Leonard Street NE, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Mercy Hallmar, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. No services are planned at Chester?s request. Inurnment will be at Springville Cemetery, Springville, Iowa. Arrangements are by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include two sons, Dean Dunlap of Cedar Rapids and Douglas Dunlap (Sandra) of Washington, Iowa; three grandsons, Bradley (Stephanie), Brian (Marci) and Brent (Jill) Dunlap; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto C. and Bertie Mann Dunlap; his wife, Helen; five sisters, Ione, Myrtle, Ruth, Grace and Gladys; and three brothers, Norman, Clinton and Maurice.

Chester was born February 6, 1913, and raised on his parents homestead near Vivian, South Dakota. He graduated from Vivian High School in 1931. In 1933, he came to Cedar Rapids, where he met and married Helen Hanna in 1937. She died in 1996. He worked as a welder for LaPlant-Choat, Allis Chalmers and Harnischfeger, retiring in 1973 after thirty-eight years of service. Following his retirement, he ran a custom welding business for fifteen years.
