Cheryl Lanae Hobbs-Poole, age 66, of Alvin, Texas, passed away on October 19, 2024, in her Alvin, Texas, home surrounded by family and immense love. She was born on August 10, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to parents Sarah Hobbs and Virgil Dugan. Cheryl was a devoted mother, faithful sister, and cherished friend known for her warmth, kindness, unwavering strength, knack for storytelling and humor.
As a widow, veteran and religious scholar, she faced life’s challenges with grace and resilience, always prioritizing her three beloved children, Cherice, Bradley and Chyla. She was passionate about her achievements in sobriety, engaging her community and fashion as well as being a steward of God’s word—serving the most high! Using her voice to motivate and inspire change was her gift and her spirit will live on through the countless lives she touched.
Cheryl is survived by her three children: Cherice Lanae Poole, Bradley Thomas Poole, Chyla Bianca Everett; the Hobbs siblings: Gary, Steven, Darrell (Pookie), Randall, Kirk, and Crystal, as well as brother and sister, Rodney Dugan and Patrisha Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, SFC Thomas Poole Jr.; brother, Carl Hobbs; mother, Sarah Hobbs; and father, Virgil Dugan.
A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held on November 1, 2024, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home at 10:00 AM CST, with a visitation one hour prior. Flowers and commemorative gestures for her services can be sent to Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404. Cheryl will be deeply missed, but her love and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
