Charlotte L. Powers, 81, of 2157 Austin Road and currently a resident of Crestview Acres Care Center, died Tuesday, October 22, 2002, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2002, at Alburnett United Methodist Church by the Rev. Fred Darbonne. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to service time Friday at the church.

Surviving are her husband, Howard; two daughters, Debra Thein and husband Gary of Walnut Shade, Missouri and Rebecca Anderson and husband Karryl of Alabaster, Alabama; two sons, Donald Powers and wife Colleen of Solon and James Powers of Grinnell; two brothers, Paull Lillie and wife Dorothea of Marion and Willis Lillie and wife Beverly of Marion; and a sister, Ida Jane Mollenhauer of Hiawatha.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Delbert Ray and two sisters, Alma and Georgia.

Charlotte was born on November 26, 1920, near Central City, to Daniel Kemp and Lillie Belle Slater Lillie. On December 5, 1954, at the Marion Christian Church, she was united in marriage to Howard Powers. She graduated from Alburnett High School in 1938 and later from Chillicothe Business College in Missouri. She worked for the Iowa State Department of Agriculture; a bank in Brooklyn, Iowa and was employed with Farmers State Bank in Marion for several years. Charlotte was a member of Alburnett United Methodist Church and was active with the United Methodist Women, serving as president for several years, and also taught Sunday school.

Charlotte was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes and "love quilts? for her family.

Charlotte was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had many friends and had touched many lives in many different ways. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

A memorial fund has been established in Charlotte?s memory.
