Charlotte A. Mensen, 88, of Earlville, Iowa, died Friday, February 28, 2014, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, Iowa. Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Earlville. The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, also from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial: St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Earlville.
Charlotte was born August 15, 1925, in Greeley, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard “Ben” and Margaret (Klostermann) Funke. She attended school in Greeley. On November 26, 1946, Charlotte was united in marriage to Arnold L. Mensen at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Greeley. The couple farmed in the Petersburg area. Charlotte moved in the Meadows in 2007 and the Good Neighbor Home in 2009.
Charlotte was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Guild. She was an avid quilter with the church ladies. She was known by her family to make quilts for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoyed sewing, crocheting and embroidery. Charlotte like playing word puzzles and lottery scratch tickets.
She is survived by her children, Bob (Georgina) Mensen of New Vienna, Rosie (Jerry) Moorman of Manchester, Dave (Karen) Mensen of Delhi, Brenda (Phil) Luensmann of Salida, Colorado, and Mark (Cindy) Mensen of Earlville; two sisters, Esther Lechtenberg and Margie Reinert, both of Edgewood; three sisters-in-law, Ida Funke, Lou Mae Funke, both of Manchester and Doris Funke of Edgewood; brother-in-law, Laverne (Janice) Mensen of Petersburg; 17 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Mensen, in August 2004; her parents, Ben and Margaret Funke; two sisters, Irene (Edmund) Mensen and Helen Vaske; four brothers, Ralph, Art, infant Elmer and Ed Funke; her brothers-in-law, Paul Vaske, John Reinert, Leo (Dorothy) Mensen and Ambrose (Mary Ann) Mensen; and grandchild, Annette Mensen.
