Charles L. Webster, 86, of Troy Mills, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2005, at Troy Mills Christian Church by the Rev. Leslie Larson. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Survivors include a son, Wayne (Patricia) Webster of Walker; a daughter, Wanda (Richard) Balster of Coggon; two stepsons, Gary (Linda) Peyton of Spring Grove, Illinios and Parker (Sheri) Peyton of Walker.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Sheri (David) Miller, Tracy (Daniel) Klendworth, Beth (Ray) Kamin, Tami (Jeff) Munson, Sandra (Kurt) Shover, Michelle Webster and fiancé Anthony Olson and Megan Webster; 10 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, and a sister, Verna Tull.
Charles was born to Charles Elmer and Neva (Rowe) Webster on May 10, 1918, in rural Linn County. On March 22, 1941, he married Jane Reed in Omaha, Nebraska. She died March 11, 1961. He then married Betty J. Peyton on July 3, 1968. She died August 27, 1988. He was a life long farmer in the Troy Mills area. Charlie attended Troy Mills Christian Church and was a member of IOOF Unidillo Lodge #299 of Troy Mills since 1939, where he served as secretary for many years. He served on the Troy Mills School Board and on the Linn Co-Op board for fifteen years. Also, Charlie was a Spring Grove Township trustee and clerk for many years and was on the Hawkeye Angus Board.
