Charles "Charlie? Vande Vegte, 94, formerly of Ryan, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa following a long illness.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester by Rev. Roger B. Henry. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester is in charge of arrangements.
Charles was born June 25, 1912 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Henry and Jenny (Kuhle) Vande Vegte. In 1954, Charles moved to California and worked as a mechanist. He then made cabinets for Baxters in Coggon, Iowa. Charles was united in marriage to Geraldine Hofstra. He retired to Ryan, Iowa in 1972.
Charles is survived by a son, Charles (Linda) Van De Vegte, Jr. of Central City; daughter-in-law, Norma Vande Vegte of Manchester; six grandchildren, Renee (Wayne) Masters, Randy Van De Vegte, Cindy (Kevin) Losey, Amy (Bill) Blumer, Angie (Chris) Zehr and Julie (Klint) Regan; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Della Grammer of Bellflower, CA.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Jenny Vande Vegte; wife, Geraldine Vande Vegte in 1947; son, Harold Vande Vegte; brother, Henry Van De Vegte; four sisters, Harriette Howon, Anna Van Holland, Nevina Brack and Jeanette Hendrickson; and a great-great granddaughter, Anna Kraft-Heer.
