Charles Edgar Tubbs, 83, of 2441 Second Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness on Thursday, March 2, 2006. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Steven Rosonke. Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home where a prayer service will begin at 5 p.m. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Czech National Cemetery. Lunch will be served at VFW following the service.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Leanore (Lee), are a daughter, Sherre Tubbs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, Kevin Tubbs; and granddaughter, Breon Tubbs of Walford; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his youngest son, Brian Tubbs; and brother, Edwin Tubbs.
Charles, son of Edgar & Mary Lnenicka Tubbs, was born October 24, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On July 30, 1947, he married Leanore Hladek at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He attended Roosevelt School and then proudly became an Army Air Force Veteran of WW II CBI Theater of War. He retired from Collins Radio and was a member of the Elks Lodge 251, American Legion Post #5 and VFW Post 788, as well as St. Patrick?s Catholic Church.
He will be fondly remembered for his love of ballroom dance, most especially those waltzes and polkas, and enjoyed being a member of both the Merimyx and Congenial 100 Dance Clubs. He frequently awed friends with his solo Russian Cossack Dance performances and was an avid swimmer and water skier as well.
His humor and delight in laughter, his love of nature and animals and being with people were his most endearing qualities.
The family extends many thanks to Hospice of Mercy, Nurses and Volunteers.
