Charles "Max? Strothman, 72, of 4660 Fairways Court in Marion, Iowa, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale, Arizona. Services: 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, Iowa by Deacon LaVerne Flagel. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Private Graveside Committal Services with military rites will take place on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Shinar Cemetery, rural Pleasant Grove, Iowa, by Rev. James Messer.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years , Margaret Jeanne Chaffee; two daughters, Barbara Rustad of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Jane A. Karbouzian of Scottsdale, Arizona; a son, Charles Martin Strothman of Anthem, Arizona; three sisters, Carol Messer of Yarmouth, Iowa, Charlotte Young of North Liberty, Iowa and Charlene Larson of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; two brothers, Fredric and John Strothman, both of New London, Iowa; two grandsons, Maxwell and Bennett Rustad; a granddaughter, Allison Gaertner; and three stepgrandchildren, Andre, Nercess and Giovani Karbouzian.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Max was born August 9, 1931, the son of Charles Fredrick and Doris Achsah Maxwell Strothman, in New London, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1952 and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Max was an A.O. Smith Harvestore Dealer for 38 years operating Frake & Strothman, Inc. Harvestore Systems. He was also a contractor and developer of luxury town homes for the last 15 years.

All who knew Max appreciated his drive, his passion for life, his energy, his sense of humor, and his big smile. He had a brilliant sense of business and took pride in partnering with others to guide them in theirs. Max was a warm and generous man. He was as proud of his family as they are of him and he will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Max?s memory.
