Charles J. Sova, Sr., 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died, Saturday, January 16, 2010. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday January 20, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Charles Daugherty. Visitation: 5:00 ?" 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, son, Charles J. (Colleen) Sova, Jr., Marion, Iowa, and daughter, Sue (Bruce) Johnson, Byron, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Kari ( Jon) Buchanan, Karyn (Nate) Jones, Megan (Andrew) Sova-Tower, Benjiman Johnson, Andrew Hanson, Leah Sova; and five great-grandchildren, Karlyn, Brooks, Luke, Charles, and Jake.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Leon; and one sister, Ruth Womochil.

Charles was born June 5, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of James C. and Tracy (Bezdek) Sova. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Charles married Elizabeth Masterson on October 8, 1946. She died May 11, 1994. For many years, he played in his own band, The Chas. Sova Orchestra. Charles worked as an Union Electrician and was a member of Local 405 and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 788. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
