Charles H. Smith, Sr.

Charles H. Smith, Sr., 77, of 202 Kohawk Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 3, 2005, at St.Luke?s Hospital following a long illness. Graveside Services: 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2005, Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Antonia; his children, Charles H. Smith, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Kirk Allen Smith and wife Brenda of Mount Vernon, Dawn Annete Fulmer and husband Ward of Cedar Rapids, Robin K. Rowray and husband Jerry of Cedar Rapids and Angel Wieser and husband Brian of Urbana; a brother, Howard L. Smith of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard Smith.
Charles was born December 14, 1927, the son of Charles H. and Virginia Ann (McAlister) Smith in Des Moines, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy as an Engineman D Third Class. Charles was based in Guam and honorably discharged with his highest ranking being EN3C. On April 1, 1950, he married Antonia C. Cop in Cedar Rapids. He retired from the Cedar Rapids Gazette after working 30 years.
