He was the third of four children born to Vera (Wright) and Charles Lincoln Slater, Sr. Chuck graduated from Central City High School in 1942, where he was voted by his class “best grinner”. Chuck was drafted into the Navy in 1943 and served 30 months on a teletype circuit between Guam and Honolulu. After his Navy discharge, he attended the University of Iowa on the GI Bill. Chuck graduated with a BS of Commerce, with a major in Accounting. After graduation, Chuck took a job with what was then Iowa Electric Light and Power Company of Cedar Rapids. Chuck along with Janice served their Lord faithfully at Valley View Baptist of Cedar Rapids, in varied ways. Chuck served as Financial Secretary and Deacon. He loved working behind the scenes, especially with children. He was always ready to pitch in wherever needed, no matter how menial the job.
